Wear gloves and eye protection
Remove loose dirt and debris with a dry brush or rag
Soak the rusty parts in white vinegar for several hours or overnight
Scrub the rust with steel wool, a wire brush, or a scouring pad
Rinse the tool with clean water
Dry the tool completely with a towel
Use compressed air or a hair dryer to remove hidden moisture
Apply a light coat of oil or rust inhibitor
Store tools in a dry place
Repeat the process if rust remains
