Wear gloves and eye protection

Soak the rusty parts in white vinegar
Scrub with a wire brush, steel wool, or abrasive pad
Use baking soda and water to make a paste for light rust
Apply a rust remover or rust converter if needed
Rinse the tool with clean water
Dry the tool completely
Sand remaining rust spots
Apply a thin coat of oil or rust-preventive spray
Store tools in a dry place
Use silica gel or a dehumidifier in tool storage areas
