Gather throttle body cleaner, clean microfiber cloths, a soft brush, and a screwdriver or socket set
Turn off the engine and let it cool completely
Disconnect the negative battery terminal
Remove the air intake duct or hose to access the throttle body
Open the throttle plate carefully by hand if possible
Spray throttle body cleaner onto a cloth or brush, not directly onto sensitive electronics
Wipe away carbon buildup and grime from the throttle bore and throttle plate
Clean both sides of the throttle plate
Use a soft brush for stubborn deposits
Avoid forcing the throttle plate open if it is electronically controlled
Reinstall the air intake duct or hose
Reconnect the negative battery terminal
Start the engine and let it idle
Check for smooth idle and proper throttle response
Repeat the cleaning if heavy buildup remains
