Remove the hamburger patties from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for 10 to 15 minutes
Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium to medium-high heat
Add a small amount of oil if needed
Place the patties in the hot pan
Cook without pressing down on the patties
Cook for 3 to 5 minutes on the first side
Flip the patties once
Cook for another 3 to 5 minutes on the second side
Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer
Cook until the internal temperature reaches 160°F for ground beef
Add cheese during the last minute if desired
Remove the patties from the pan
Let the patties rest for 2 to 3 minutes before serving
