How to Cook Whole Lobster?

Choose a live lobster or a very fresh lobster

Rinse the lobster under cold running water

Bring a large pot of heavily salted water to a rolling boil

Add optional aromatics such as bay leaves or lemon

Hold the lobster firmly and place it headfirst into the boiling water

Cover the pot and return the water to a boil

Cook for about 8 to 10 minutes for the first pound

Add about 3 minutes for each additional pound

Check for doneness when the shell is bright red and the meat is opaque

Remove the lobster with tongs

Drain and let it rest for a few minutes

Twist off the claws, tail, and legs if serving whole

Crack the shell and remove the meat to serve

Serve with melted butter and lemon if desired
