Provide fresh, cool water at all times
Move the dog to a shaded or air-conditioned area
Use a fan to increase airflow
Wet the dog’s paws, belly, and ears with cool water
Place a cool, damp towel under the dog
Offer a cooling mat
Limit exercise during hot weather
Walk the dog during cooler parts of the day
Avoid hot pavement and direct sun
Give small amounts of water frequently
Use a kiddie pool or shallow water for supervised cooling
Brush out excess fur if appropriate for the breed
Never leave the dog in a parked car
Watch for signs of heat stress
Contact a veterinarian immediately if the dog shows signs of heatstroke
