Calm and restrain the dog gently

Hold one paw steady and separate a single nail

Identify the quick and avoid cutting into it

Trim only the tip of the nail

Cut small amounts at a time

Stop if you see a dark center, pink quick, or any bleeding

Use styptic powder if you accidentally cut the quick

Reward the dog after each nail

Repeat for the remaining nails

Trim dewclaws if present

Check nails regularly and trim as needed
