Stop all food for 12–24 hours if your dog is an adult and otherwise healthy
Provide plenty of fresh water
Offer small amounts of bland food after the fast, such as boiled chicken and white rice
Feed small, frequent meals
Keep your dog on the bland diet for 2–3 days
Add a probiotic made for dogs
Avoid treats, table scraps, and fatty foods
Check for recent diet changes and return to the previous food if needed
Make sure your dog is up to date on deworming and parasite prevention
Clean up any possible toxins, garbage, or spoiled food access
Monitor for vomiting, lethargy, blood in stool, fever, or dehydration
Contact a veterinarian if diarrhea lasts more than 24–48 hours
Contact a veterinarian immediately if your dog is a puppy, senior, or has other health problems
Contact a veterinarian immediately if there is blood, black stool, severe weakness, repeated vomiting, or signs of dehydration
