Move the dog to a cool, shaded, or air-conditioned area
Offer small amounts of cool water
Wet the dog with cool water, especially the belly, paws, and armpits
Use a fan to increase airflow
Place cool, damp towels on the dog
Let the dog rest and avoid exercise
Remove excess fur only if advised by a groomer or vet
Use cooling mats or a shallow kiddie pool
Keep the dog off hot pavement and out of direct sun
Watch for signs of heatstroke such as heavy panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse
Contact a veterinarian immediately if heatstroke is suspected
