Gather a basin, warm water, mild baby soap, soft washcloth, towel, clean diaper, and fresh clothes
Wash your hands
Check that the room is warm and free of drafts
Fill the bath with a small amount of warm water
Test the water temperature with your wrist or elbow
Keep the infant supported at all times
Start by washing the face with plain water
Clean the body gently with a soft washcloth
Wash the diaper area last
Rinse off any soap carefully
Keep the infant warm during the bath
Lift the infant out securely when finished
Wrap the infant in a towel right away
Pat the skin dry, especially in folds
Put on a clean diaper and clothes
Never leave the infant unattended in the bath
