Choose a ripe pineapple with a healthy, green crown
Twist or cut off the top close to the fruit
Remove any fruit flesh from the base of the crown
Peel off the lower leaves to expose about 1 inch of stem
Let the crown dry for 1 to 3 days
Place the crown in water or directly in well-draining soil
If using water, keep only the stem base submerged
If using soil, plant the crown in a pot with drainage holes
Use a sandy, well-draining potting mix
Keep the plant in bright, indirect sunlight
Water lightly and let the soil dry slightly between waterings
Maintain warm temperatures
Wait for roots to form over several weeks
Transplant to a larger pot or garden space after rooting
Fertilize lightly during the growing season
Be patient, as fruiting can take 1 to 3 years
