Check that the carrot tops are 1/2 to 1 inch wide at the soil line
Loosen the soil around the carrots with a garden fork or trowel
Grasp the greens close to the root
Pull the carrot straight up gently
Use your hand or a tool to lift stubborn carrots from the soil
Brush off loose dirt
Cut off the greens if storing the carrots
Harvest before the ground freezes hard
Pick carrots in the cool part of the day
