Stand or sit with a straight back and relaxed shoulders
Place the bass body against your torso
Rest the lower bout on your right thigh if seated right-handed
Use a strap to support the bass when standing
Adjust the strap so the bass sits at a comfortable height
Keep the neck angled slightly upward
Support the neck with your fretting hand without squeezing
Let the bass balance on your body and strap
Keep both wrists relaxed and neutral
Hold the bass close enough to reach all frets comfortably
Avoid hunching over the instrument
Keep your plucking arm relaxed over the body of the bass
