Choose a carp rod, reel, and line strong enough for large fish
Use a hair rig or other carp-safe rig
Select bait such as boilies, sweetcorn, pellets, bread, or dough balls
Pre-bait the area with a small amount of feed if allowed
Fish near weed beds, drop-offs, margins, snags, or shallow warm water
Cast accurately to the chosen spot
Set the bait on the bottom or just above it
Use a bite alarm or keep the line under close watch
Keep the drag set properly to absorb sudden runs
Strike firmly when a bite is detected
Play the carp steadily and avoid forcing it
Use a landing net to bring the fish in safely
Wet your hands and support the carp properly before handling
Unhook the fish carefully and return it quickly if practicing catch and release
