Confirm with your obstetric provider that nipple stimulation is safe for you before trying it
Do not use nipple stimulation if you have placenta previa, vaginal bleeding, preterm labor risk, multiple pregnancy, or any condition your clinician says makes labor induction unsafe
Wash your hands and make sure your nipples and breasts are clean
Use your fingers, a breast pump, or a warm washcloth to gently stimulate one nipple at a time
Stimulate one nipple for about 5 minutes, then stop and wait about 10 to 15 minutes
Repeat the cycle on the same side or switch to the other side if advised by your clinician
Continue only if contractions are mild and spaced out
Stop immediately if contractions become very strong, very frequent, or last too long
Stop if you notice vaginal bleeding, decreased fetal movement, dizziness, pain, or any concerning symptom
Monitor fetal movement during and after stimulation
Avoid continuous stimulation for long periods
Use nipple stimulation only under guidance from your healthcare provider
Seek urgent medical care if contractions are regular and intense, your water breaks, you have bleeding, or the baby is moving less than usual
