Gather fresh or artificial flowers, ribbon, string, needle, scissors, and tape
Cut flowers into equal lengths if needed
Measure the lei length around the graduate’s neck
Cut a long piece of string or ribbon
Thread the needle with string or ribbon if using one
Pierce each flower stem or bloom carefully and slide it onto the string
Alternate flower colors or types if desired
Continue adding flowers until the lei reaches the desired length
Tie the ends of the string or ribbon securely
Add bows, charms, or decorative accents if desired
Store the lei in a cool place until graduation
Place the lei gently around the graduate’s neck before the ceremony
