How to Make Chana Dal?

Rinse 1 cup chana dal thoroughly

Soak the dal in water for 30 minutes to 2 hours

Drain the soaked dal

Heat 2 tablespoons oil or ghee in a pot

Add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

Add 1 chopped onion and sauté until golden

Add 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste and cook briefly

Add 1 chopped tomato

Add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

Add 1 teaspoon red chili powder

Add 1 teaspoon coriander powder

Add salt to taste

Cook until the tomatoes soften

Add the drained chana dal

Add 3 to 4 cups water

Stir well

Cover and cook until the dal becomes soft

Add more water if needed while cooking

Mash lightly if a thicker texture is desired

Add garam masala

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves

Serve hot with rice or roti
