How to Make Indian Rice?

Rinse 1 cup basmati rice until the water runs clear

Soak the rice for 20 to 30 minutes

Drain the rice

Heat 1 to 2 tablespoons oil or ghee in a pot

Add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

Add 1 bay leaf, 2 to 3 cloves, and 1 small cinnamon stick

Add 1 sliced onion and cook until golden, if desired

Add 1 chopped green chili, if desired

Add the drained rice and gently stir for 1 minute

Add 2 cups water and salt to taste

Bring to a boil

Cover and cook on low heat until the water is absorbed

Turn off the heat and let the rice rest for 5 to 10 minutes

Fluff with a fork

Serve hot
