Gather pizza dough, tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, olive oil, salt, and flour or cornmeal for dusting
Preheat the oven to the highest temperature possible, ideally with a pizza stone or baking steel inside
Let the dough come to room temperature
Lightly flour the work surface
Stretch or roll the dough into a round pizza base
Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet dusted with flour or cornmeal
Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough
Add slices or torn pieces of fresh mozzarella evenly on top
Drizzle lightly with olive oil
Sprinkle with a small amount of salt
Bake until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly
Remove from the oven
Top with fresh basil leaves
Slice and serve immediately
