Place chicken breasts or thighs in a pot or deep skillet
Add enough water or broth to cover the chicken
Season with salt, pepper, garlic, onion, or any preferred spices
Bring the liquid to a boil over medium-high heat
Reduce heat to low and cover the pot
Simmer until the chicken is fully cooked and tender
Remove the chicken from the pot and let it cool slightly
Shred the chicken with two forks or a hand mixer
Return the shredded chicken to the pan if desired
Toss with a little cooking liquid, broth, or sauce to keep it moist
