Fill dents or holes with wood filler if needed

Wipe away all dust with a tack cloth or damp cloth
Apply painter’s tape to edges and surrounding trim
Use a primer suitable for the door material
Let the primer dry fully
Lightly sand the primed surface if needed
Stir the paint thoroughly
Apply the first coat with a brush, roller, or sprayer
Paint panels, edges, and details first
Finish with smooth, even strokes
Let the first coat dry completely
Apply a second coat if needed
Let the final coat cure fully before closing the door
Reinstall hardware after the paint is dry
Remove tape carefully once the paint is set
