Prune rhododendron right after flowering
Remove dead, damaged, or diseased branches
Cut off spent flower clusters
Thin overcrowded stems to improve airflow
Make cuts just above a leaf node or branch junction
Use clean, sharp pruning shears
Avoid heavy pruning unless necessary
If needed, rejuvenate overgrown plants by cutting back gradually over several seasons
Do not prune late in the season
Disinfect tools before and after use
