Park both vehicles close enough for the cables to reach, but do not let them touch
Turn off both vehicles
Set both parking brakes
Put both vehicles in park or neutral
Open both hoods
Identify the positive battery terminal marked with a plus sign
Identify the negative battery terminal marked with a minus sign
Connect one red clamp to the dead battery positive terminal
Connect the other red clamp to the good battery positive terminal
Connect one black clamp to the good battery negative terminal
Connect the other black clamp to an unpainted metal ground on the dead vehicle, away from the battery
Make sure the clamps are secure and not touching each other
Start the vehicle with the good battery
Try starting the dead vehicle
Remove the cables in reverse order after the dead vehicle starts
Keep the clamps from touching each other while removing them
