Turn off the heat source if it is safe to do so
Cover the pan with a metal lid or baking sheet to smother the flames
Turn off the burner
Use a Class K fire extinguisher if available
Use a Class B fire extinguisher if the fire is on a larger oil spill
Evacuate and call emergency services if the fire is spreading
Never use water on an oil fire
Never move the burning pan
Never use flour, sugar, or baking powder on the fire
Never use a wet towel or cloth on the fire
