Turn off the heat source if it is safe to do so
Do not move the pan
Do not use water
Do not use flour, baking powder, or other powders
Cover the flames with a metal lid or baking sheet
Slide the lid on carefully without splashing the grease
If available, use a Class K or ABC fire extinguisher
Aim the extinguisher at the base of the fire
If the fire is in an oven, keep the door closed and turn off the heat
If the fire spreads, evacuate immediately
Call emergency services if the fire cannot be controlled quickly
After the fire is out, keep the area closed off until fully cooled
