How To Relieve Tooth Pain After Filling?

Take over-the-counter pain relief such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen as directed on the label

Avoid chewing on the filled tooth until the numbness wears off

Eat soft foods for the first day or two

Avoid very hot, cold, sticky, or hard foods

Rinse gently with warm salt water

Use a cold compress on the outside of the cheek for 10 to 15 minutes at a time

Brush and floss gently around the filled tooth

Avoid clenching or grinding your teeth

Contact your dentist if the pain is severe, lasts more than a few days, or gets worse

Contact your dentist if you have swelling, fever, or pain when biting that does not improve
