Turn off the engine and remove the key
Put the vehicle in park and set the parking brake
Wear gloves and safety glasses
Open the hood
Locate the battery
Identify the negative terminal marked with a minus sign
Loosen the negative terminal clamp
Remove the negative cable and secure it away from the battery
Identify the positive terminal marked with a plus sign
Loosen the positive terminal clamp
Remove the positive cable and secure it away from the battery
Remove any battery hold-down bracket or clamp
Lift the battery straight up and out of the tray
Place the battery on a stable surface
Keep the battery upright and avoid contact with metal objects
