Turn off power to the alarm if it is hardwired
Twist the alarm counterclockwise to remove it from the mounting bracket
Press the battery compartment release tab or slide open the battery door
Remove the battery from the compartment
If the battery is sealed or non-removable, replace the entire alarm
Reattach the alarm to the mounting bracket if needed
Restore power if it was turned off
