Turn off power at the circuit breaker
Verify the power is off with a non-contact voltage tester
Remove the light bulb
Remove the trim by pulling it down gently or unclipping it
Unscrew or unhook the fixture from the housing
Disconnect the wire connectors
Remove the housing clips or mounting brackets
Pull the housing out of the ceiling
Cap the exposed wires with wire nuts
Secure the junction box cover if required
Patch the ceiling opening if the fixture is being permanently removed
Restore power only after all parts are safely removed and covered
