How to Remove Surgical Sutures?

Wash your hands thoroughly

Gather clean tweezers, small scissors, antiseptic, and gauze

Clean the area gently with antiseptic

Use tweezers to lift one knot of the suture

Cut the suture close to the skin on one side of the knot

Pull the loosened thread out gently with tweezers

Remove each stitch one at a time

Stop if the wound opens, bleeds, or looks infected

Apply antiseptic after removal

Cover the area with a clean bandage if needed

Seek medical help if you are unsure or if the sutures are deep, on the face, or over a joint
