How to Take Blood Pressure Correctly?

Rest quietly for 5 minutes before measuring

Avoid caffeine, smoking, exercise, and alcohol for 30 minutes before measuring

Empty your bladder before measuring

Sit in a chair with your back supported

Keep your feet flat on the floor and legs uncrossed

Rest your arm on a table at heart level

Use the correct cuff size

Place the cuff on bare skin, not over clothing

Wrap the cuff snugly around the upper arm

Do not talk or move during the measurement

Take at least 2 readings, 1 minute apart

Measure at the same time each day

Use the same arm each time unless told otherwise by a clinician

Record the readings immediately

Follow the device instructions exactly
