How to Tape an Ankle for Support?

Gather athletic tape, pre-wrap or underwrap, and scissors

Clean and dry the foot and ankle

Place the foot at a 90-degree angle

Apply pre-wrap if desired

Anchor tape around the lower leg just above the ankle

Anchor tape around the midfoot

Apply a stirrup strip from the inside of the lower leg, under the heel, to the outside of the lower leg

Apply a second stirrup strip in the opposite direction

Add heel-lock strips on both sides of the ankle

Add figure-eight strips around the foot and ankle

Add additional anchor strips to secure the tape

Check that the tape is snug but not too tight

Make sure toes remain warm and pink

Remove or retape if numbness, tingling, or increased pain occurs
