Wash your hands
Check the insulin label and expiration date
Make sure the insulin looks correct
Attach a new pen needle
Remove the outer needle cap and save it
Remove the inner needle cap
Prime the pen if needed
Dial the prescribed dose
Choose an injection site
Clean the skin if needed
Insert the needle into the skin
Press and hold the injection button
Keep the needle in place for several seconds
Remove the needle from the skin
Replace the outer needle cap
Unscrew and discard the needle safely
Recap the pen
Store the pen as directed
Rotate injection sites
Monitor blood sugar as instructed
