Sort laundry by color, fabric, and washing instructions
Check pockets and close zippers or fasteners
Load clothes into the drum without overfilling
Add detergent to the correct dispenser or directly into the drum if required
Add fabric softener if desired and if the machine has a dispenser
Select the appropriate wash cycle and water temperature
Choose spin speed if the machine allows it
Start the washing machine
Wait for the cycle to finish
Remove clothes promptly after washing
Transfer clothes to a dryer or hang them to dry
Leave the door or lid open briefly to let the machine dry out
