Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water
Blink several times
Look in a mirror and locate the contact if possible
Pull your upper eyelid down over your lower eyelid and blink
Pull your lower eyelid down and look up
Use sterile saline or contact lens rewetting drops to rinse the eye
Gently massage the closed eyelid if the lens is stuck
Try removing the lens with clean fingers if you can see it
Do not rub your eye hard
Do not use tweezers, cotton swabs, or sharp objects
Remove the lens and inspect it to make sure it is intact
Seek urgent eye care if you cannot remove it, have pain, redness, blurred vision, or think the lens is torn or stuck
Remove contact lenses before sleeping unless your eye doctor says otherwise
