Wash your hands thoroughly
Do not rub the eye
Rinse the eye gently with sterile saline or clean water
Blink several times to help flush out debris
Remove contact lenses if you wear them
Use preservative-free artificial tears
Wear sunglasses to reduce light sensitivity
Avoid eye makeup and contact lenses until healed
Rest your eyes and avoid screen strain
Seek urgent medical care if pain is severe, vision is blurred, the eye is very red, there is discharge, or symptoms do not improve within 24 hours
