How to Make Stovetop Rice?

Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear

Add rice and water to a pot

Use 1 cup rice to 2 cups water for white rice

Use 1 cup rice to 2.5 cups water for brown rice

Add a pinch of salt if desired

Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat

Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid

Simmer white rice for 15 to 18 minutes

Simmer brown rice for 40 to 45 minutes

Do not lift the lid while the rice cooks

Turn off the heat when the water is absorbed

Let the rice sit covered for 5 to 10 minutes

Fluff the rice with a fork

Serve immediately
