Wash the bite with soap and water
Apply a cold compress for 10 to 15 minutes

Use calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream
Take an oral antihistamine if itching is severe
Keep the area clean and dry
Elevate the area if it is swollen
Seek medical care if there is spreading redness, pus, fever, or trouble breathing
