Open the ratchet handle fully until it lies flat
Thread the loose end of the strap through the slot in the center spool
Pull the strap through enough to remove slack
Pull the strap tight by hand around the load
Pump the ratchet handle back and forth to tighten the strap
Stop when the strap is secure and the load is held firmly
Close the ratchet handle completely to lock it in place
