How to Install a Ceiling Fan with Existing Wiring?

Remove the existing light fixture or old fan

Check that the electrical box is fan-rated and securely mounted

Replace the box if it is not rated for ceiling fan support

Assemble the ceiling fan according to the manufacturer’s instructions

Attach the mounting bracket to the electrical box

Connect the fan wires to the existing wiring

Connect black to black for fan power

Connect blue to the switched light wire if present

Connect white to white for neutral

Connect green or bare copper to ground

Secure all wire connections with wire nuts

Tuck wires neatly into the electrical box

Attach the fan motor to the mounting bracket

Install the fan blades

Install the light kit if included

Install bulbs and glass shades if applicable

Restore power at the breaker

Test the fan speeds and light operation

Tighten any loose screws or hardware

Balance the blades if the fan wobbles
