How to Season Cast Iron Dutch Oven?

Wash the Dutch oven with warm water and mild soap

Scrub off any rust, residue, or factory coating

Dry it completely with a towel

Heat it on the stove or in the oven to remove all moisture

Apply a very thin layer of cooking oil to the inside and outside

Wipe off all excess oil so the surface looks nearly dry

Place it upside down in an oven at 450°F to 500°F

Put foil or a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch drips

Bake for 1 hour

Turn off the oven and let the Dutch oven cool inside

Repeat the oiling and baking process 2 to 3 times for a stronger seasoning

After use, clean with hot water and a soft brush

Dry immediately and apply a light coat of oil after each wash
