How to Season Cast Iron Pans for the First Time?

Wash the pan with warm water and a small amount of mild soap

Scrub off any factory coating or residue

Rinse thoroughly

Dry completely with a towel

Heat the pan on the stove or in the oven until fully dry

Apply a very thin layer of oil to the entire pan, inside and out

Wipe off all excess oil until the surface looks almost dry

Place the pan upside down in a preheated oven at 450 to 500°F

Put foil or a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch drips

Bake for 1 hour

Turn off the oven and let the pan cool inside

Repeat the oiling and baking process 2 to 4 times for a stronger seasoning

Avoid cooking acidic foods in the pan until seasoning is well established
