How to Clean a Rusted Cast Iron Skillet?

Scrub off loose rust with steel wool or a stiff brush

Wash the skillet with warm water and mild dish soap

Rinse thoroughly and dry completely

Apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the rusted areas

For heavy rust, make a paste of baking soda and water and scrub

For stubborn rust, soak briefly in vinegar and water, then scrub

Rinse immediately after vinegar treatment

Dry the skillet on low heat on the stove

Coat the entire skillet with a thin layer of oil

Bake upside down in the oven at high heat for about one hour

Let it cool in the oven

Repeat seasoning if needed

Store in a dry place after use

Wipe clean and oil lightly after each use
