How to Cook a Tri Tip Steak?

Pat the tri-tip steak dry

Trim excess fat if needed

Season generously with salt and black pepper

Add garlic powder, onion powder, or your preferred rub if desired

Let the steak sit at room temperature for 30 to 60 minutes

Preheat the oven to 425°F or prepare a grill for medium-high heat

Sear the tri-tip in a hot skillet or on the grill for 4 to 5 minutes per side

Reduce heat or move to indirect heat

Cook until the internal temperature reaches 130°F for medium-rare or 135°F for medium

Remove the steak from heat

Rest the steak for 10 to 15 minutes

Slice the tri-tip against the grain

Serve immediately
