Thaw the turkey completely in the refrigerator
Remove the giblets and neck from the cavity
Pat the turkey dry with paper towels
Season the turkey with salt, pepper, and any desired herbs or spices
If desired, rub the skin with butter or oil
Place the roaster oven insert in the roaster and preheat the roaster to 325°F
Add the roasting rack to the insert
Place the turkey breast-side up on the rack
Cover the roaster with the lid
Roast the turkey until the internal temperature reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the breast and 175°F in the thigh
Check the temperature with a meat thermometer
Baste the turkey occasionally if desired
Remove the turkey from the roaster when done
Let the turkey rest for 20 to 30 minutes before carving
Carve and serve
