Add the sausages to the skillet in a single layer
Add a small amount of water if using raw sausages
Cover the skillet with a lid
Cook for 5 to 8 minutes, turning occasionally
Remove the lid and let the water evaporate
Reduce heat to medium-low if the sausages are browning too quickly
Continue cooking and turning until evenly browned
Cook until the internal temperature reaches 160°F for pork or beef sausage, or 165°F for poultry sausage
Remove the sausages from the skillet
Let them rest for a few minutes before serving
