How to Cook Rice the Asian Way?

Rinse the rice 3 to 5 times until the water runs mostly clear

Drain well

Measure rice and water

Use jasmine rice or short-grain rice for many Asian dishes

Add rice to a pot or rice cooker

Add water using the rice type’s usual ratio

Jasmine rice: 1 cup rice to 1 to 1.25 cups water

Short-grain rice: 1 cup rice to 1.1 to 1.2 cups water

Soak the rice for 15 to 30 minutes if desired

Add a pinch of salt if desired

Cook in a rice cooker or covered pot

If using a pot, bring to a boil over medium heat

Reduce to low heat once boiling

Cover tightly and simmer until water is absorbed

Do not stir while cooking

Turn off the heat and let it rest covered for 10 to 15 minutes

Fluff gently with a rice paddle or fork

Serve warm
