Rinse 1 cup of white rice until the water runs mostly clear
Add the rice to a microwave-safe bowl
Add 2 cups of water
Add a pinch of salt, if desired
Cover the bowl loosely with a microwave-safe lid or plate
Microwave on high for 10 minutes
Stir the rice
Microwave on medium or 50% power for 10 to 12 minutes more
Check if the water is absorbed and the rice is tender
If needed, microwave in 1-minute intervals until done
Let the rice sit covered for 5 minutes
Fluff with a fork before serving
