Choose a sunny location with well-drained, acidic soil

Select a blueberry variety suited to your climate
Plant in early spring or fall
Space plants according to the variety’s mature size
Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and as deep as the root ball
Set the plant at the same depth it was growing in the container
Backfill with acidic soil mix and water thoroughly
Mulch with pine needles, wood chips, or bark
Keep soil evenly moist, not waterlogged
Water regularly during dry periods
Fertilize with an acid-loving plant fertilizer in spring
Avoid over-fertilizing
Prune lightly in late winter to remove weak or dead growth
