Choose a ripe pineapple with a healthy green crown
Twist or cut off the crown from the fruit
Remove any fruit flesh from the base of the crown
Peel off a few lower leaves to expose the stem
Let the crown dry for 1 to 3 days
Place the crown in water or plant it directly in soil
If using water, submerge only the stem base, not the leaves
Change the water every few days
Wait for roots to form if rooting in water
Fill a pot with well-draining soil
Plant the rooted crown in the soil with the base covered
Keep the soil lightly moist, not soggy
Place the pot in a warm, sunny location
Water when the top soil feels dry
Fertilize lightly after new growth appears
Transplant outdoors only in frost-free conditions
Wait patiently for the plant to mature and fruit
